8 More Days Until Picnic at Playland 2019!
Pink Shirt Luncheon Raises Almost $90,000 for Anti-Bullying Initiatives
Our annual Pink Shirt Day Luncheon presented by Coast Capital Savings took place on February 22nd at the Blue Water Cafe in downtown Vancouver. With the generous support of our guests, donors, sponsors and volunteers we raised nearly $90,000, making it one of our most successful luncheons to date. These funds will go towards programs throughout BC, helping build children’s healthy self-esteem with a focus on anti-bullying and violence prevention.
For the second year in a row the Pink Shirt Luncheon took place during a surprise snow storm. Despite the snow, the afternoon, hosted by CKNW host Simi Sara, was a great success. Guests braved the elements to enjoy a delicious meal, enticing silent auction, a live auction led by the incomparable Fred Lee, and of course bubbly pink wine!
The highlight of the afternoon was the speech given by Nick Chernoff of Safer Schools. With his hands on experience with bullying in schools, he was perfectly suited to sharing more about how we can all be more kind, both in person and online.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many generous donors and volunteers who made this event such a huge success. We also couldn’t have done it without our amazing sponsors. Thank you to Coast Capital Savings, Beedie, Wheaton Precious Metals, Skin Technique, London Drugs, Stong’s Market, Stittgen Fine Jewelry, Glo Skin Beauty, the Washington Kids Foundation, Brunette the Label, Blue Water Cafe, Gray Monk Estate Winery, Global News Radio 980 CKNW, and Global BC! It is amazing to see what we can achieve when we work together. And, of course a big thank you to all of our guests who ensured we had another successful year.

The Pink Shirt Day 2019 campaign focus is on cyber bullying. Kindness requires no manipulation, no focusing on the negatives, and no filtering yourself. It’s simply, truly nice. For social media users, we want them to THINK before they post. We want them to ask themselves if it is: True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and KIND.
Thank you to our generous sponsors for this event:
Coast Capital Savings, the Washington Kids’ Foundation, Global, CKNW, JOEY'S and Gray Monk Estate Winery.

Exclusive 2018 Cartwright Snowglobes On Sale Now!
We are so excited to continue our partnership with Cartwright Jewelers for another year. Susan Cartwright-Coates has been a generous donor to the CKNW Kids’ Fund and we are so thankful for her consistent support over the last 19 years.
This year, Susan has designed a trio of beautiful snowglobes exclusive to 2018. The snowglobes feature a snowman, reindeer and bear in a glass ball on top of a winter boot. Susan’s designs are thoughtfully created and sell out quickly every year. They sell for $10, and thanks to Susan Cartwright-Coates’ generosity, the entire sale benefits the CKNW Kids’ Fund. There are only 1,000 snowglobes produced annually, which makes them a beautiful collectible item for years to come.
We are fortunate to be partnered with such a charitable business, who is glad to support the CKNW Kids’ Fund every year.
Thank you, Susan and Cartwright Jewelers!

The dawn of social media brought with it a whole new way to interact, communicate, and even bully. But in this digital world where filtered photos and crafted messages can be posted in an instant, it often takes more time and effort to say something mean than it does to say something nice. Kindness requires no manipulation, no focusing on the negatives, and no filtering of yourself. It’s simply, truly nice. For social media users, we want them to THINK before the post. We want them to ask themselves if it is: True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and KIND.

Win an Alaskan Cruise with Hagen’s Travel and cruises!
Stunning views of glaciers, wildlife, and incredible parks await you in Alaska, the land of the Midnight Sun. Sail from Vancouver on an amazing week-long cruise generously donated by our partner, Hagen’s Travel and Cruises, and help BC kids in need!
We have already been able to help hundreds of kids with special needs so far this year, and through your generosity we can help even more. We support families and children in need, providing them with funds for therapies, medical equipment, and accessible vehicle and home modifications.
Raj is an 10 year old boy diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and blindness. He is currently home schooled for health reasons and fully dependent on others for his self-care and mobility needs. As he grows, it will be more difficult for his parents or care assistants to help him, and it was recommended that the family’s bathroom be modified for increased accessibility.
Through the support of generous donors like you, the CKNW Kids’ Fund was able to help Raj and his family. With your continued support, we can help more kids with special needs all over BC.
Thank you!
